Variants of this problem move the wB to any square attacking c8 (except b7!) or replace it with a wN either on c8 or attacking it.
Pretty much the same problem results if the White king is on any other square in check. NDE points out that light-squared bishops can be added ad lib (up to the maximum total of 18 possible) anywhere in the board except a2 or the checking line from b1 to h7 or (if White) g8. Such expanded versions don’t really count as a problem, where each unit should make a contribution however humble.

The wK may be on c1 instead.
A related position has wK on h6, and wB on f7.
Class 1 Problems
Death by Insufficient Material

This is the simplest category of DR position. Every position on this page is DR illegal or DR restricted, and at least one line results in a draw by insufficient material.
Here is the complete specification of draws by insufficient material.

We classify the DR positions in terms of the pieces which appear on the diagram, and they are listed in order of increasing number of pieces. Some positions begin with sufficient material to checkmate.

One feature of Class 1 problems is that the DR logic is relatively uncluttered by conventional retro reasoning, since the positions are too simple for much retro to apply. There are only a few mechanisms at work here, and the class has less variety than classes 2 & 3.

We may be able to determine a complete list of all possible small Class 1 positions. This means every small Class 1 position has a place here, either as a diagram, or as a reference beneath some related diagram. If you find any more Class 1 positions or even if you just have some useful negative results, please contact me.

Some class 1 positions can also end in a stalemate. These are located
here.

The wB could be located on any of the 17 light squares that neither attack nor occupy a8 or c8.
And finally... the ludicrous 24 unit position:
(sorry that's being published: it will appear here afterwards).
